RELEASE: Cloud Partners with Port of Corpus Christi to Advance $7.65 Million to Strengthen Corpus Christi Ship Channel and Energy Exports

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Michael Cloud (TX-27) secured $7.65 million in funding to support operations and maintenance improvements along the Corpus Christi Ship Channel in the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2026, which has passed out the House today.
The Corpus Christi Ship Channel is one of the busiest ports in the country, serving as the top crude oil export gateway in the United States. It supports more than 95,000 jobs across Texas and generates billions in exports and transportation savings each year, but to remain functional and safe, the channel requires consistent and timely maintenance.
“The Port of Corpus Christi plays an essential role in our local and national economy,” said Congressman Cloud. “We were able to secure $7.65 million in funding, a key step to ensure that the Port of Corpus Christi maintains the capabilities that make it the premier energy port of the United States.”
This funding will also enable the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to continue vital upkeep of the Inner Basin to Viola, the La Quinta Ship Channel, and surrounding areas. These maintenance efforts are essential to keeping the channel safe, navigable, and operating at full capacity.
“The Port of Corpus Christi is grateful to Congressman Cloud for his fervent support of our efforts to enhance the Gulf Coast navigational infrastructure that enables Port customers to deliver essential commodities to the communities that depend on them around the world,” said Port of Corpus Christi Chief Executive Officer Kent Britton. “Without this funding, work on critical ship channel improvements would stall, inhibiting business continuity for Port users.”
As a strategic hub for American energy exports, the Port plays a vital role in strengthening supply chains, bolstering our economy, and advancing national security. This year’s funding represents a meaningful step forward to keep the channel operating at full strength for generations to come.
The Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2026 now heads to the Senate for further consideration.
