As you may have seen in the news, last week the House failed to pass a funding bill that included the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which would require proof of citizenship for voter registration nationwide. With millions of illegal immigrants crossing the border under the Biden-Harris administration, Americans are rightfully concerned about noncitizens influencing the outcome of our elections. Even with all the critical problems we have to deal with, you would hope election integrity is one Congress would have a sacred duty to address.

While Texas has been proactive in removing noncitizens from voter rolls, states like Pennsylvania and Arizona lag behind. The SAVE Act is aimed to ensure election integrity nationwide and implement reforms preventing lawless bureaucrats from working around the system. Sadly, it was blocked by Democrats, leaving our elections in the same vulnerable state.

This was also a missed chance to prevent a massive “Christmas omnibus” spending bill – a term we use to describe the process where Swamp bureaucrats get together and try to jam through a huge pork spending bill in December, using the threat of missing Christmas as a way to get votes. It is a horribly bad faith process, and sadly many members of Congress fall for it. I am deeply concerned Democrats will use this process to entrench Biden-Harris administration policies and spending levels–thus limiting the first year of a new Trump administration, if President Trump is elected. That is part of what we’re working to prevent.

We’re working on alternative solutions and I will keep you updated. This is a fight worth having and I am not backing down.

I was honored to preside over the House floor during debate on the No Bailout for Sanctuary Cities Act. If a city ignores federal immigration laws, it should not expect any federal funding.

Alongside this, I championed a vital amendment in the Homeland Security appropriations bill to reinforce this stance, ensuring that funds are withheld from any state or locality that obstructs the enforcement of national immigration laws.

The Biden-Harris administration is putting American lives at risk by covering up a critical national security issue—illegals with potential terror ties crossing our borders. This isn’t just speculation; former Border Patrol Chief Aaron Heitke, who spent years on the front lines of border security, has come forward with alarming revelations. According to Heitke, the Biden-Harris administration has actively suppressed information about illegals flagged for possible connections to terrorism.

Every American deserves to live without fear that dangerous individuals are slipping through the cracks due to political negligence.

Under no circumstances should we be drafting our daughters into combat. That’s why I’ve joined Rep. Chip Roy and Rep. Mary Miller in calling on Republican leadership to remove language from the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would force women to register for the draft.

Forcing young women to register for the selective service is an affront to our nation’s values and does not enhance military readiness—the only metric by which Congress should measure an NDAA. This is yet another blatant attempt to advance a divisive agenda that seeks to eliminate all distinctions between males and females.

On Washington Watch with Tony Perkins, we discussed government spending and the SAVE Act. Our goal was to stop another bloated, last-minute omnibus spending bill and ensure illegal immigrants can’t vote in our elections. Unfortunately, the vote didn’t pass, but I emphasized that we must stay committed to fiscal responsibility and election integrity. The DC Swamp is fighting hard to protect its status quo, but we’re fighting back for the sake of hardworking Americans and the future of our country.

God Bless,

Michael Cloud
Member of Congress

RELEASE: Rep. Cloud Expresses Disappointment After Funding Bill That Would Secure American Elections Fails to Pass

Congressman Michael Cloud (R-TX) expressed disappointment after the failure of the funding bill, which included the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. The bill would have ensured the government remains funded through March 28, 2025, with no additional spending increases while protecting the integrity of U.S. elections by requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration.
