RELEASE: Rep. Cloud Receives “Champion of Limited Government Award” for Voting Record

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Michael Cloud (R-TX) has been honored with the “Champion of Limited Government Award” for his exceptional voting record, ranking among the Top 10 in Congress most aligned with the limited government principles of the U.S. Constitution. The recognition was bestowed by the Institute for Legislative Analysis following one of the most expansive studies available on Congressional voting trends, analyzing nearly 65,000 votes.

The study revealed that only 21% of members in Congress supported limited government principles at a threshold of at least 80%. Congressman Cloud’s voting record stood out as a strong testament to his commitment to these foundational values, earning him this prestigious accolade.

The 55-page congressional study also highlighted several key findings:

  • Republicans voted with the limited government position 77.05% of the time across all policy issues, while Democrats voted with the progressive position 92.52% of the time.
  • While Republican lawmakers supported the “conservative position” on cultural and social issues 97.33% of the time, they only backed the limited government stance on tax and fiscal issues 50.63% of the time.

Congressman Cloud’s legislative efforts have consistently focused on reducing the size and scope of the federal government, protecting individual liberties, and promoting fiscal responsibility. This is especially important to Congressman Cloud in that his long-stated, most important goal is to help ensure that Americans’ freedoms are protected against the intrusions of big government. His work on the House Appropriations Committee and the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability has been instrumental in advancing these goals.

Rep. Cloud released the following statement:

“Receiving the ‘Champion of Limited Government Award’ is a wonderful honor. As a firm believer in the principles laid out by our Founding Fathers, I have always strived to uphold and defend the Constitution to the best of my ability.

Of course, the job is far from finished, and I will continue to work tirelessly to protect American liberties, reduce the size of government, and eliminate wasteful spending. Our nation’s prosperity is rooted in the freedoms affirmed by the Constitution, and it is our duty to guard those freedoms against any form of governmental overreach. Most importantly, I need to thank the constituents of Texas 27 who continue placing their faith in me to be their voice in Congress. It is a tremendous honor that I will never take for granted.”
