Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, Rep. Michael Cloud (R-TX) joined several of his conservative House Freedom Caucus colleagues in New York to support President Trump during his ongoing trial and speak out against the lawfare efforts of leaders in the Democrat party.

Some of the members who attended included Rep. Bob Good, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, Rep. Andy Biggs, Rep. Andy Ogles, Rep. Matt Gaetz, Rep. Eli Crane, Rep. Ralph Norman, Rep. Lauren Boebert, Rep. Diana Harshbarger, and more.

Rep. Cloud released the following statement:

“Make no mistake about what is going on in our country right now. Democrats cannot bring inflation down, they can’t bring costs down, they can’t bring crime down, and they can’t bring illegal immigration down — so in turn, they’re trying to bring their chief political opponent down. Democratic politicians are using an unprecedented, acrobatic lawfare to try and put someone in prison who threatens their political power. This isn’t just deeply wrong, it’s chilling, and it’s emblematic of the broken system in our country that offers one set of rules for the rich and powerful who kowtow to the regime, and another set of rules for people who challenge it.

Americans across the country may have specific reasons for not supporting President Trump, or opposing conservatives in office, and they have a right to do that. That is part of our Constitutional system. My hope and prayer is that ALL Americans — whether you’re Democrat, Republican, or Independent — will come to see the grave danger we are in if we allow those in power to use the legal system to persecute their political opponents. It is an affront to the Constitution and to every American’s right to speak freely.

I was grateful to join my colleagues supporting the former President yesterday and make it clear that we will not be silent while something so wrong occurs. What is happening to former President Trump right now is just plain un-American, and our leaders have a responsibility to stand up and say so — not for politics, but for the country.”
