RELEASE: Rep. Cloud Applauds $11 Million Allocation for Port of Corpus Christi Channel Dredging Project

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This week, the office of Rep. Michael Cloud (R-TX) applauded a major victory with the news that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has allocated over $11 million for the Port of Corpus Christi Channel Dredging Project as part of their latest work plan.

Since being elected in 2018, Congressman Cloud has advocated relentlessly for funding for the port’s channel project due to its critical role in the region and to the United States energy sector. Earlier this year, Cloud sent a letter to the USACE and had several calls and meetings with the Corp and the Assistant Secretary of the Army, urging prioritization of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) funding for the Port of Corpus Christi due to its importance to America’s energy exports.

The allocated funds will be used for essential dredging operations, ensuring the channel remains deep and navigable for larger vessels, which is vital for maintaining the port’s competitive edge and supporting increased vessel capacity. The project will go a long way in helping the Port of Corpus Christi drive economic activity in Texas-27 and America’s energy exports, which has been a major priority of Congressman Cloud’s since his first election.

The Port of Corpus Christi is the leading energy export port in the United States, playing a crucial role in America being a global energy leader. By ensuring the port remains efficient and capable of handling larger vessels, this project not only supports local economic growth but also strengthens the U.S. position as a global energy leader. The port’s success in energy exports helps supply our allies, reducing their dependence on our adversaries and enhancing America’s energy security.

Rep. Cloud released the following statement:

“I am thrilled to hear that the Port of Corpus Christi will receive over $11 million from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the channel dredging project. This is a significant win for our district and demonstrates the importance of this port, not just regionally, but to the nation. This funding is crucial for enhancing the port’s capacity, boosting our local economy, and strengthening America’s energy security with increased exports.

The Port of Corpus Christi is a key driver of economic growth and job creation in our district. Improving the channel through dredging will allow for more efficient and safer navigation of larger vessels, which is vital for maintaining our competitive edge in the global market. By investing in our infrastructure, we are not only supporting local economic growth but also bolstering America’s energy leadership and helping our allies achieve energy security.

I want to thank the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Port of Corpus Christi Authority, and all those who were involved in this effort. Together, we are making significant strides toward ensuring that our port remains a cornerstone of economic prosperity for South Texas.”
