WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Michael Cloud (R-TX) has officially announced the winners of the 2024 Annual Congressional Art Competition for Texas’s 27th District.

The Congressional Art Competition, a nationwide high school art contest organized by members of the U.S. House of Representatives, provides students with an opportunity to show off their artistic talents and build connections with their fellow artists in the district. Winning artworks from each district are displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol, with additional selected pieces exhibited in the offices of their Representatives. The competition aims to encourage and recognize the artistic achievements of young constituents and foster an appreciation for the arts within the community.

This year’s first-place winner is Violet Trent, whose artwork titled “Western Setting” will be displayed in the United States Capitol Cannon tunnel for the next year. The runner-up is Gloria Harris for her piece “Birds of a Feather,” which will hang in Congressman Cloud’s Washington D.C. office.

Additionally, Congressman Cloud is delighted to announce the two People’s Choice Award winners, both of whom received the most votes in a public poll hosted by the Cloud office. The winners were “Deep in the Heart” by Mia Dorsey and “Shimasoní Bé’gun (Grandma’s House)” by Annemarie Turner. These pieces of art will be displayed in our Victoria and Corpus Christi district offices for all visitors to enjoy.

Congressman Cloud released the following statement congratulating the winners and expressing his appreciation for all the artists who participated:

“I am thrilled to celebrate the incredible talent of these students from Texas’s 27th District. Our community is home to many gifted young artists, and it’s an honor to showcase their work on both a local and national stage. The creativity and skill demonstrated in this year’s submissions are truly inspiring. Each piece tells a unique story and reflects the differing styles and talents of our young artists.

“I want to thank all the students who participated. Your dedication to the arts blesses our community and encourages others to explore their own creative potential. Special thanks also to everyone who voted and to our panel of judges for their time and effort. Every piece submitted was outstanding, and year after year, we are always impressed with the talent in our district. I look forward to seeing the continued growth and success of these young artists in the future.”
