CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi is officially recognized as a Coast Guard City.
The City of Corpus Christi said it’s an honor to recognize the community’s dedication and support for the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard and their families over a 45 year history.
U.S. Representative of Texas, Michael Cloud, said, “Corpus Christi is honored to be named the first Coast Guard City in Texas, joining just 34 cities nationwide with this recognition. As the only Coast Guard City in Texas, this designation reflects our city’s long support for the U.S. Coast Guard and the pivotal role they play in protecting our nation’s coastline.”
The community’s deep appreciation for the Coast Guard is further demonstrated through initiatives such as the only Coast Guard JROTC program in Texas at Veterans Memorial High School.
The city said the Coast Guard City designation, which lasts for five years, will strengthen the ties between the city and the Coast Guard. Later this year, it will hold an event to celebrate the milestone to recognize the Coast Guard’s contributions to the region.
“Corpus Christi is deeply honored to be awarded the prestigious designation of Coast Guard City,” Mayor Paulette Guajardo said. “This recognition is a powerful testament to the commitment our entire community has shown in supporting the brave men and women of the United States Coast Guard.”
