Congressman Cloud Votes To Oppose Democrats’ Socialist Spending Bill

Washington, D.C. 一 Today, Congressman Cloud provided a statement regarding his vote in opposition to Democrats’ disastrous “Build Back Better” spending legislation.

The bill passed with a partisan vote and will be taken up in the Senate.

As the United States is experiencing inflation rates at record highs, House Democrats have passed a second bill chock-full of wasteful spending appropriated to fulfill socialist, big-government wishlist items they were unable to include in the previous $1.2 trillion “infrastructure” bill.

Some radical provisions, just to name a few, included in this spending package are billions of taxpayer dollars to fund the enforcement of unconstitutional vaccine mandates, programs that enable the federal government to act as co-parents一without parents’ consent, and creates an army of IRS agents to report on everyday Americans.

Furthermore, this bill would grant amnesty for millions of illegal aliens, force taxpayers to fund abortions, enact destructive environmental priorities from the Left’s Green New Deal agenda, and kill thousands of quality jobs in American energy一making us reliant on our foreign adversaries.

Yesterday, the Congressional Budget Office released their final estimate of the true cost of this bill. They concluded this legislation would increase our national debt by over $360 billion over the next decade. Democrats have messaged that this bill was “paid for” and will add nothing to our debt.

They lied.

To make matters worse, the CBO estimate is just one estimate. Another estimate that looks past the CBO’s budgetary gimmicks is from the nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Budget. Their estimate found that the true cost of the bill is double its price tag, considering that many of the programs authorized under this bill may be extended depending on the party in power. Therefore, the cost of the bill could reach $4.9 trillion.

President Biden’s “Build Back Better” plan would be funded by tax increases and will lead to a big-government takeover in nearly every aspect of Americans’ lives. This bill is disastrous for Texas and would devastate America as a whole.

“A country can’t spend its way into prosperity,” Congressman Cloud said. “The passing of this legislation would further jeopardize our economy while putting power in the hands of the federal government to command childcare services, universities, energy production, health care, and just about every other aspect of Americans’ lives. This bill takes major steps in the Biden Administration’s march towards socialism. I pray the Senate shows some sense and blocks this disastrous bill from becoming law.”
