Congressman Cloud Leads Effort To Protect Churches From Pro-Abortion Protestors
Washington, D.C.一Today, Congressman Michael Cloud (TX-27) sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland urging the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate the recent attacks on Christian churches and to prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.
Ever since the draft opinion from the Supreme Court was leaked, pro-abortion advocates have taken to vandalizing churches, disrupting church services, and in one instance, stealing a tabernacle.
However, these instances are not new.
The letter states “the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has identified that “at least 129 incidents have occurred across 35 states and the District of Columbia since May 2020. Incidents include arson, statues beheaded, limbs cut, smashed, and painted, gravestones defaced with swastikas and anti-Catholic language and American flags next to them burned, and other destruction and vandalism.”
The DOJ has defined a hate crime as “a crime motivated by bias against race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.
This definition puts religious hate crimes squarely in the DOJ’s purview.
While every American has the constitutional right to peacefully protest in public, the actions and rhetoric of these pro-abortion groups constitute hate crimes since they are targeting communities based on their religious belief.
“The rule of law, including the right of the People to freely worship must be defended,” Congressman Cloud said. “The recent attacks on Christian churches across our nation must be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
