RELEASE: Rep. Cloud Reacts to Court Decision Pausing Biden Admin’s Ban on New LNG Exports
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Michael Cloud (TX-27) praised the recent federal court decision to pause the Biden administration’s halt on new liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. This ruling is a significant victory for Texas, as well as America’s energy independence, economic growth, and national security.
Earlier this year, the Biden administration announced a pause on new LNG export approvals as part of their radical climate agenda, bypassing Congress and the Natural Gas Act of 1938. LNG, which is natural gas cooled to a liquid state for storage and transportation, is crucial for exporting energy around the world and maintaining America’s economic stability. This week, a federal judge in Louisiana granted an injunction that prevents the pause from taking effect while the legal case on the matter continues.
Biden’s executive order has done tremendous damage to the Texas energy sector, as LNG is a critical portion of the industry with a major presence in the state. Until this ruling, the White House had paused all new permits, putting a major strain on producers and causing significant uncertainty. Rep. Cloud has long pushed the Biden administration to withdraw the executive order because of the negative impact on Texans.
Rep. Cloud released the following statement:
“The court’s decision to block the Biden administration’s pause on new LNG exports is great news for America’s energy security and economic stability. This ruling halts a disastrous policy that would have increased energy costs for Americans and weakened our position on the global stage.
As I stated earlier this year, the President’s pause on LNG exports was a misguided decision with painful consequences—which would have impacted the 27th District and United States’ energy independence. Our country cannot afford more of the extreme left’s self-inflicted chaos. Biden’s pursuit of the left’s radical climate agenda at the expense of American workers and businesses must end. Although these are positive developments, our work is not finished. The Department of Energy must act swiftly and approve pending LNG applications to secure America’s future and maintain our energy independence.”
