RELEASE: Rep. Cloud Demands Election Security as Congress Plans for Another Continuing Resolution

WASHINGTON — Congressman Michael Cloud (R-TX) released the following statement warning that Congress is poised to push another Continuing Resolution (CR) instead of negotiating and passing remaining spending bills before the September 30 deadline, kicking the can down the road and risking a massive Christmas time omnibus package. He emphasized that if a CR is forced upon Americans it must include the SAVE Act, ensuring only U.S. citizens can vote, as a non-negotiable demand in any CR to protect election integrity.

“Here’s the hard truth for what’s coming next month in D.C. — instead of returning to negotiate and pass our remaining spending bills as we should, Congress is preparing to push yet another CR. This move will either delay the inevitable until December, leading to a massive omnibus package, or push the issue into the new Congress next spring. Unfortunately, this is how the establishment is forcing things.

Here’s another truth — the Democrat-controlled Senate and President Biden refuse to support the SAVE Act, a common-sense measure that ensures only U.S. citizens can vote in our elections. They don’t want secure elections, and that should concern every American.

If the establishment insists on forcing a CR, then Republicans must demand that the SAVE Act be included. This would compel the Senate and President to either sign it or risk a government shutdown.

This is where the House Freedom Caucus and I stand. While we oppose passing any CR, if it’s forced upon us, we will fight to ensure the SAVE Act is part of the deal. It’s time to hold the line and demand accountability, because secure elections should be non-negotiable.”
