RELEASE: Rep. Cloud Applauds CCRTA’s Grant Award for New Bus Project
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Michael Cloud (TX-27) applauded the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority (CCRTA) for receiving a federal grant for their natural gas bus project.
CCRTA will receive $5,888,040 from the Fiscal Year 2024 Low and No Emission Grant Program, provided by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). These funds will enable CCRTA to replace its aging fleet with natural gas buses and benefit areas with high ridership. The project also includes workforce development training to help CCRTA build a skilled and enduring fleet of drivers to serve the community for generations.
This comes after Rep. Cloud sent letters of support to the FTA in 2022, 2023, and 2024, advocating for CCRTA’s grant applications, highlighting his commitment to improving transportation infrastructure and services in the 27th District. CCRTA also applied for the Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program to construct a new maintenance facility designed to withstand extreme weather conditions to further enhance safety and reliability in our public transit.
Rep. Cloud released the following statement:
“I am thrilled that CCRTA has secured this vital funding to provide more efficient buses for our community. I was pleased to work with them on this issue and utilize our federal resources within the Department of Transportation to help secure this grant for the city. The workforce development component ensures that well-trained drivers serve our community for years, which will benefit our constituents and help our district continue to thrive. I look forward to seeing the benefits this project will bring to our public transportation system and the new job opportunities it will create for the Coastal Bend region.”
