CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — Congressman Michael Cloud (TX-27) joined local officials and leaders of the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority (CCRTA) yesterday for the groundbreaking of a new state-of-the-art maintenance facility. The project is made possible by $46.2 million in federal funding secured by Representative Cloud through the Federal Transit Administration, along with an earlier $1.94 million appropriation he secured to fund the facility’s design phase.
Representative Cloud worked closely with CCRTA Board Chair Art Granado and Executive Director Derrick Majchszak to shepherd the investment through the federal funding process. The new facility will replace an aging structure that no longer meets the demands of a growing community.
“This investment is ultimately about people. The RTA has been indispensable in serving its riders, including helping veterans get to medical appointments, seniors reach essential services, and residents commute to work,” said Rep. Cloud.
The modern facility will also bolster the region’s resilience during hurricanes and other emergencies, ensuring CCRTA can continue providing critical transportation services when the community needs them most.
“Their old facility was decades out of date and simply couldn’t keep up with the needs of Corpus Christi. These investments will ensure they can serve the public efficiently and safely for years to come.” Rep. Cloud continued, “Congratulations to the CCRTA on their diligent work on this project, and thank you to the Department of Transportation, and Secretary Duffy, for their support of the Coastal Bend community.”
