RELEASE: Cloud Introduces Resolution to Declare July as American Families Month

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Michael Cloud (TX-27) introduced a resolution today to designate July as “American Families Month,” a national observance recognizing the foundational role the traditional family plays in American life.
The resolution encourages Americans to reflect on and celebrate the enduring importance of marriage, parenthood, and multigenerational bonds that strengthen communities and shape our nation’s future. It highlights the proven economic, social, and cultural benefits of stable families and affirms their essential contribution to a flourishing society.
“The American family has long been the cornerstone of a strong and healthy nation,” said Congressman Cloud. “This resolution offers a timely and meaningful opportunity to honor the role families play in raising children, supporting one another, and building resilient communities within our country.
Research consistently shows that strong family structures are among the greatest predictors of positive outcomes for children and long-term societal well-being:
- Children raised in families with married parents are more likely to graduate high school, attend college, and perform better academically.
- Youth raised in stable two-parent families are less likely to experience behavioral problems, depression, and substance abuse.
- Communities with a higher share of two-parent families tend to have lower crime rates and safer neighborhoods.
As families across the country face increasing challenges, designating July as “American Families Month” encourages a renewed commitment to the values of faithfulness, care, and shared responsibility.
“Recognizing July as ‘American Families Month’ would provide a dedicated time each year to reflect on the relationships that shape our lives and to celebrate the irreplaceable role the traditional family plays in the life of our nation,” added Cloud.
