WASHINGTON — Congressman Michael Cloud (TX-27) introduced the Prevent Aliens Through Rivers or Land (PATROL) Act to ensure Texas and other border states can defend themselves against illegal immigration without interference from the federal government under future administrations.
Under the previous administration, states that attempted to protect their own communities from illegal border crossings were met with political lawsuits and roadblocks. The PATROL Act ensures that states like Texas have the legal authority to construct physical barriers—including walls, fences, and floating barriers—without interference from the Department of Justice (DOJ).
“For the last four years, the White House had refused to secure our border and instead fought against the states that were stepping up to do it themselves,” said Congressman Cloud. “The PATROL Act makes it clear: Texas doesn’t need permission from the federal government to defend its communities. The DOJ should never again be used as a weapon against border security. Now that we have an administration under President Trump who cares about law and order and protecting our communities, it’s time to remove the last roadblocks and allow Texas to finish the job.”
With President Trump’s strong leadership back in the White House, securing the southern border is once again a priority. The PATROL Act will lock in President Trump’s pro-border security efforts by ensuring states can play a direct role in border security without the federal government standing in the way.
“This legislation is needed in case we ever have another lawless open border Administration like Biden/Harris,” said NumbersUSA. “States must be allowed to protect their borders when the federal government fails.”
“States should have the right to secure the border and protect American citizens when the federal government fails to do so. With President Trump back in the White House, Congress must build on his momentum to strengthen our immigration system and enforce the rule of law. Heritage Action commends Rep. Cloud for leading the charge to secure the border with the PATROL Act, and we encourage members of Congress to empower states to protect themselves by supporting this bill.”
