Newsletter: The Renewal of the American Dream

President Trump delivered his Joint Address to Congress, declaring that America’s renewal is here. After years of failed leadership and government overreach, we are once again embracing freedom, economic strength, and national security. His vision puts the American people first, secures our borders, and ensures government spending returns a good return on investment to taxpayers. The fight to rebuild our country is just beginning, and Congress must step up to support President Trump to get the job done.

In less than two months back in office, President Trump has signed nearly 100 Executive Orders aimed at restoring our nation. These EOs include border security policies that have reduced illegal border crossings by 93%, energy initiatives that have lowered costs by 15%, and spending reforms that will save taxpayers $55 billion.

By focusing on national security, economic growth, and individual freedoms, we are entering the Golden Age of America. Now, more than ever, it is imperative for Congress to work fast to ensure these policies are codified to benefit America in the future.

For the first time since I’ve been in Congress, we’re seeing real spending reforms—even if small—which is a step in the right direction. Under President Trump’s leadership, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is aggressively cutting bureaucratic waste at a record pace, delivering unprecedented savings to the American people.

I don’t like continuing resolutions (CRs). They are a symptom of Washington’s broken budget process. However, this CR ensures the government remains funded through October while we reach reconciliation and long-term budget negotiations. This gives DOGE the time needed to continue cutting waste—savings that Congress must make permanent.

In just a short time, this administration has done more to rein in Washington’s bloated spending and unelected bureaucracy than we’ve seen in decades. Congress must give President Trump the time to finish the job while working alongside his administration to lock in these reforms for the long haul. This is just the start, and Congress cannot sit on our hands and let the President do all the work via executive order.

The DOGE Subcommittee’s hearing brought to light more disturbing truths about how taxpayer dollars are being spent—without oversight, without accountability, and often without the American people even knowing. Billions of dollars are flowing out of USAID by unelected bureaucrats on wasteful and leftwing programs.

While private citizens would face decades in prison for funding terrorist organizations, our own government has funneled money to groups linked to the Taliban with zero consequences. And it doesn’t stop there—USAID has even approved funding for everything from transgender operas to Paris Fashion Week. The American people are right to be fed up.

Government exists to serve the people—not to waste their money on radical agendas or reckless foreign spending. Our government has to return to common sense.

The Port of Corpus Christi is nearing completion, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. As the largest energy export gateway in the U.S., the port moved over 206.5 million tons of cargo in 2024 and generates millions in economic impact. This expansion will strengthen TX-27’s economy, boost national trade, and enhance energy exports to our allies around the world.

Next on the agenda is the Matagorda Ship Channel Improvement Project, an investment that will increase capacity and efficiency for Texas’ energy exports. Despite its economic and national security benefits, the Biden Administration caved to radical environmental activists, placing roadblocks designed to kill the project and force it back to square one. However, with President Trump’s new executive order cutting regulatory delays, we expect to see long-overdue progress that will benefit TX-27, our economy, and America’s global energy leadership.

Open-border policies and sanctuary cities have created chaos. Over 6 million illegal crossings overwhelmed communities, while cities ignoring 27,000 ICE detainers and diverting FEMA funds to house illegal immigrants put Americans last. Meanwhile, cartels raked in $13 billion annually by exploiting the crisis.

Americans didn’t ask for this—and they shouldn’t have to pay for it. Since returning to office, President Trump has taken swift action: border apprehensions are down 93%, wall construction is back on track, and sanctuary cities defying the law are losing federal funding. A nation without borders is no nation at all—it’s time to restore order and put Americans first.

For generations, the U.S. set the global standard for leadership—but under the last administration, our influence crumbled. While China poured trillions into global infrastructure, Washington wasted millions on DEI mandates, climate regulations, and gender ideology. Our adversaries grew stronger while America fell behind.

That ends now. Under President Trump, we’re prioritizing strength—securing $1.5 trillion in new investments, rebuilding our border, and restoring economic dominance. America is back—leading with action and ensuring future generations inherit a nation that stands tall.

I introduced the End FEMA Benefits for Illegal Immigrants Act to stop taxpayer dollars from funding services for illegal immigrants instead of disaster relief. Under the Biden Administration, FEMA’s Shelter and Services Program (SSP) diverted $1.45 billion to housing and transportation for illegal immigrants—money meant to help Americans recover from disasters.

The bill eliminates the SSP and redirects unused funds to pay down the national deficit. FEMA was created to assist Americans in times of crisis—not to fund illegal immigration. One of President Trump’s first executive orders mandated a full review of FEMA’s spending to ensure resources are used properly. This bill delivers on that directive, restoring FEMA’s core mission and preventing future administrations from diverting disaster relief funds.

I joined Newsmax, NewsNation, Real America’s Voice, C-SPAN, The Matt Gaetz Show, and Washington Watch to discuss the Joint Address to Congress, the dangers of sanctuary cities, and the critical work DOGE is doing to expose the misuse of federal funds. Over the past four years, we have watched our nation decline under failed leadership and reckless policies. Now, with President Trump back in office, it is imperative that America reclaims its rightful place on the world stage. Congress must step up and support his efforts to restore strength, security, and accountability.

God Bless,

Michael Cloud
Member of Congress
