Newsletter: Charlie Kirk — A Man of God, a Man of the People.

This week, we lost a national treasure.

Charlie Kirk was a man of God, a man of the people, and someone who lived with a faith that shaped everything he did.

In Hebrews 11, Scripture speaks of those who “through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength.” It goes on to remind us of those who faced jeers, imprisonment, and even death, yet continued to stand for truth. The passage finishes with “the world was not worthy of them.”

That’s who Charlie was. He faced opposition, but his heart was fixed on eternity. His aim was never self-promotion but service to God, to his family, and to a generation searching for truth. Charlie’s faith was not theoretical. It was lived out in the way he poured himself into others, unafraid to stand firm, unashamed of his Faith and the values that build this nation.

His absence leaves a deep void on this Earth. But his life is a reminder that what the enemy intends for evil, God can turn to good. And I believe the seeds Charlie planted in faith will continue to bear fruit for years to come.

May we lift up Erika and the Kirk family in our prayers. May God comfort and surround them with His peace, and may we honor Charlie’s legacy by living with the same courage and conviction that he did.

TThis month, I introduced a resolution to calling for the National Day of the Bible.

On September 12, 1782, the Continental Congress approved the Aitken Bible — the first complete English-language Bible printed in America, often called the “Bible of the Revolution.” At the height of our nation’s founding, Congress recognized that Scripture was central to liberty and essential to sustaining a free people.

The resolution will:

  • Recognize the Aitken Bible not only as a religious text, but as a symbol of America’s resilience and commitment to self-governance;
  • Encourage schools, civic institutions, and communities to observe the day with programming that highlights the Bible’s significance in our nation’s history.

More than any other source, our Founders cited Scripture when establishing the principles of this Republic. Marking this day reminds us that the Bible is not only the bedrock of our liberty, but also the living Word of God that continues to guide us as a people.

Since the start of the 119th Congress, our team has helped recover more than $2.5 million for TX-27 residents from federal agencies like the IRS, Social Security, and the VA. There have been over 14,000 calls and messages answered, staying connected and committed to the people we represent.

One of those stories comes from Juan of Bee County, who came to us for help with his disability application. Within weeks, his case was resolved — and starting this April, he’ll receive $2,028 per month in benefits, or $18,252 this year alone. Juan wrote:

My case was addressed immediately after contacting your office. Without your help, I would probably still be waiting. I will forever be grateful. God bless.

That’s what this work is all about. Every case matters — from helping seniors with Medicare, to resolving passport delays, to guiding veterans through VA claims. So far, we’ve resolved 435 cases this Congress, and we’re just getting started.

The House has advanced the FY26 Energy and Water Appropriations Act. This bill strengthens American energy independence and secures vital infrastructure wins for South Texas.

We secured $7.65 million for the Port of Corpus Christi. This funding will help ensure proper maintainance of one of America’s premier energy port

We also secured $6.75 million for dredging and project planning along the Matagorda Ship Channel. As one of the Gulf’s most significant but underserved waterways, this investment is a critical step to improve navigation, expand commerce, and support jobs across our region.

Other key highlights from the bill:

  • Securing efficient transport of goods and commodities through improvements and maintenance to America’s ports and waterways.
  • Continued funding for cybersecurity efforts that enable a resilient, reliable, and secure electric grid.
  • Reducing foreign reliance on the U.S. to convert their nuclear reactors.

As the House sends the fourth appropriations bill to the Senate, the focus remains the same: ensuring South Texas priorities, from our ports to our energy exports, are at the forefront of America’s future.

The Department of Veterans Affairs was created to care for those who served our nation. That mission must remain clear. Unfortunately, under the Biden Administration, the VA issued a rule requiring taxpayer dollars to fund abortion services — a policy that went beyond the law and undermined the purpose of the VA.

Under President Trump’s leadership, the VA is reversing a Biden-era rule that forced taxpayers to fund abortion at VA facilities. I led an effort in Congress to support this reversal. The VA was created to care for those who served, not to fund the destruction of life under the guise of health care. This action protects taxpayers, upholds the law, and restores the VA to its true mission: providing real care to the men and women who wore the uniform.

Congress has already spoken clearly on this matter. The Veterans Health Care Act of 1992 and the Deborah Sampson Act of 2020 prohibit the VA from providing abortion services. The rule put forward by the previous administration ignored those protections and turned the VA into a political battlefield instead of keeping it focused on veterans’ needs.

This action means:

  • Taxpayer dollars will be protected from being used to fund abortion procedures.
  • The law will be upheld as written by Congress in 1992 and 2020.
  • Resources will stay focused on veterans’ needs — mental health support, timely appointments, and medical treatment for service-connected conditions.
  • The VA’s mission will be reaffirmed as a place of healing and care for those who served.

Protecting life and caring for veterans are not opposing goals — they are both about honoring the dignity and worth of every person. By restoring the VA to its lawful mission, we ensure it remains committed to those who have sacrificed for our country.
