Newsletter: Artemis II’s & FISA Reauthorization
Welcome Home to the Astronauts of Artemis II

Our nation reached a historic milestone last week as NASA’s Artemis II mission successfully carried astronauts farther into space than any crew in human history!
While the launch took place in Florida, the heart of this mission beats just down the road in Houston. At Johnson Space Center, astronauts trained for years, studying lunar terrain, conducting simulations, and preparing for the challenges of deep space. During this mission, that same center served as mission control, guiding every step of this journey.
I had the distinct honor of helping welcome the crew of Artemis II back to Houston this past weekend, and to thank them personally for their incredible courage and excellence they displayed to the rest of the nation. In my brief remarks, I also thanked this crew for uniting our nation behind a shared goal and for helping us all see ourselves in a new light through the lens of their grand adventure.
It was clear to me during this celebration and my visit to Johnson Space Center earlier this year that Artemis II is serving as a powerful testament to American ingenuity, perseverance, and our continued progress as a nation. Congratulations to the astronauts and the entire NASA team on this incredible achievement.

FISA Reauthorization

As Congress returns to session this week, debate continues on the upcoming vote to reauthorize the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which is a federal law authorizing procedures and electronic surveillance to collect foreign intelligence. Despite its original intention to go after our foreign adversaries, FISA has too often been abused and misused to surveil American citizens without their consent.
The debate on FISA Reauthorization must include enhanced protections to ensure that FISA will not be abused by the surveillance state. These protections include warrant requirements, a ban on purchasing data from private brokers, and a ban on a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). These barriers will ensure that our intelligence community can continue keeping Americans safe at home and abroad without sacrificing key constitutional rights.
Victoria VA Clinic

I recently had the pleasure of touring the new VA Outpatient Clinic in Victoria, which serves over 3,000 veterans in the region. This 22,000 square foot facility offers primary care, mental health care, lab work, social work, and much more, finally giving our veterans the care they deserve.
This new facility started seeing patients in 2025 after years of there only being an outdated clinic that often caused delays in care. Thank you to the great team at the Victoria VA Clinic for the tour and for providing excellent care to the heroes of the Crossroads region.
Warriors Weekend Muster

For years, Warriors Weekend has led our community in honoring the service and assisting in the recovery and healing process of countless Veterans who have served our nation. It’s always a blessing to see our community come together for the Warriors Weekend Muster in support of this remarkable effort.
This year’s gathering was especially meaningful as Warrior’s Weekend marked its 20th anniversary of service to the brave men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform. For two decades, this organization has built a legacy of unwavering commitment to veterans and their families, especially those wounded in the Global War on Terror.
During the event, I was honored to recognize Ron Kocian, founder of Warriors Weekend, with a Patriot Award and a commemorative flag in appreciation of his leadership and dedication. His vision has made a lasting difference in the lives of countless veterans across Texas and beyond.
It was an honor to be alongside those who remain committed to ensuring our nation’s heroes receive the respect, care, and support they have earned.
