|United Corpus Christi Chamber on the Hill Day|
This week I met with the United Chamber of Corpus Christi in Washington D.C. and set up meetings for them with key leaders from FEMA and the White House to discuss disaster assistance, national defense, tax reform, and the Corps of Engineers.
This was a good opportunity for the business community and economic leaders of Corpus Christi and the surrounding areas to share their concerns with key legislative and Administration officials in Washington.
|Cloud Leads Effort to Secure Funding for Port of Corpus Christi Ship Channel|
This week I led an effort in Congress to gain support for plans to deepen and widen the Corpus Christi Ship Channel. The Port of Corpus Christi now exports 61 percent of all the crude oil sold by the entire United States! But the largest oil tankers will remain unable to access the port until the ship channel is expanded.
The port's channel improvement project will benefit oil and gas workers across our entire region and strengthen our nation's energy security. It will also ensure that our friends and allies across the world are not held hostage to Russian energy producers. Recently, I worked with Rep. Henry Cuellar and other members of the Texas delegation to secure $13 million toward funding this project, and I am working to build support in Washington to expedite this critical port project.
