This past week our nation buried George H.W. Bush. It’s been a remarkable week to stand in proxy for the people I represent as our nation honors the former President, Vice President, Ambassador, Congressman, Navy pilot – and of course, husband, father and friend to so many.
Early in the week, thousands came at all hours to pay their respects while he was lying in state in the Capitol. Wednesday was the National Day of Mourning, and I joined the many others from around the world to pay respects at a ceremony at the National Cathedral. President Bush was honored for his accomplishments - but just as importantly for being a good, decent and honorable person with a sense of duty to a cause greater than himself, and an extraordinary devotion to serve his fellow man.
